Assets Real Estate Portland & Heywood, a locally owned and operated family business, has a legacy that reaches back to the late 1960s.
Initially based in Heywood, the agency quickly expanded, opening an office in Portland at 137 Percy Street in the early 1980s. With continued growth, the business relocated to a larger office at 96 Percy Street, where it still operates today, while also retaining its original Heywood office to serve the community.
In the early 1990s, the business joined the First National Group, becoming Hedditch First National, with Reg as one of the founding members of the franchise. After Reg's passing in 2004, six of his long-time employees purchased the business, ushering in a new chapter under the name ResCom Property and Finance. In 2011, the business left the ResCom franchise to become Assets Real Estate - its current name.
Today, Assets Real Estate continues to serve the Portland and Heywood regions with the same dedication to quality service, rooted in decades of trusted local expertise.
Michelle Hughes (recently retired in 2025 after 49 years in the business) has been dedicated since 1976, serving as the foundation and guiding force for what has now become a family-run enterprise.
In 2005, her daughter-in-law Katrina joined the team, followed by Michelle’s husband Kevin in 2007. In 2017, her son Ben came on board, and a few years later, her other son Josh joined the business in 2020. Her daughter-in-law Kellie, took on the role of property manager in 2024 after her daughter Ebony retired from the family business after 17 years.
Today, Katrina and Ben are directors, with their partners Josh & Kellie by their side in support, they are leading the business with a commitment to providing exceptional service to all valued clients. With Katrina and Josh fully licensed Estate Agents, the family is well-equipped to continue the agency’s success well into the future.

Our main office is centrally located in Portland’s bustling shopping precinct, while our Heywood branch is the only full time real estate agency in town, providing dedicated service to the Heywood community.
With a team of eight experienced and enthusiastic sales agents, supported by three professional assistants, we are committed to achieving the best results for both vendors and purchasers.

Our property management team includes seven skilled managers who oversee over 500 residential and commercial properties. By staying current with all legislation and training, they deliver exceptional service and peace of mind to our clients.
